When to get dental implants

With 2020 in full swing already, it might be time to start thinking about scheduling your oral restoration surgery and get dental implants.

Deciding to get dental implants is a big decision and shouldn’t be made lightly or overnight. You need to plan carefully to make sure you have enough time to recover before returning to work.

How Long Do Dental Implants Take?

While the dental implant procedure can take place over several weeks or months, the actual fitting is usually complete in 2-3 visits.

The Implant Procedure

Initially, an impression of the problem tooth is made, which will later be used to create a natural implant. The problem tooth is then removed, and the dental surgeon drills a small hole in the gum, under local anaesthetic.

During the second visit, the dentist will fuse a titanium implant to the jaw bone, which will act as an artificial root for the new tooth. And a crown or bridge is then fitted on top of the implant.

The Recovery Period

The healing process can take anywhere between 6-12 weeks. Time off work isn't essential during the recovery process, but you may still want time off to get used to your new teeth.
