Your Journey – What to expect

1

Free Smile Assessment

When you attend your assessment, you’ll first be welcomed by one of our Treatment Coordinators. They will then take you to meet one of our highly experienced clinicians.

During your consultation, we will carry out a CBCT scan using the latest technology to determine bone density and bone width, as well as other scans and photos. This will determine what the best treatment plan is, and allow us to give you a same day answer, in most cases.

They will also take the time to answer any questions or concerns you might have, giving you the information you need to make a fully informed decision. And there is no pressure to pay or decide anything on the day.

2

Detailed virtual planning

Once you are happy to proceed, the dental implants process is meticulously planned so that the actual surgery itself is both minimally invasive and quick. Virtual assimilation technology, for example, allows us to plan the surgery taking into account the exact trajectory and depth of each implant to avoid any nearby nerves or (if placed in the upper jaw) sinus cavities.

3

Dental implant surgery

Surgery is fully computer-guided and carried out under a local anaesthetic. It is minimally invasive and typically takes under 1-2 hours to complete. If necessary, we can also provide you with IV sedation to ease any anxiety, at no extra cost. Patients should remain comfortable during the procedure and because keyhole techniques are used to insert the dental implant into the missing tooth site, it negates the need for stitches. As a result, any post-op recovery is very short.

Once complete, we will give you all the instructions you need to take care of your new smile!

Commonly asked questions about dental implants

Are dental implants right for me?

Dental implants are right for most people, however, because it involves a surgical process there are some exceptions. People with existing heart conditions or those who are clinically obese may not be eligible neither may those with conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or alcoholism.

In addition, individuals who have previously undergone cancer surgery in the head and neck area or are currently undergoing radiation may also not be eligible.

There are also other conditions that will need to be treated first before going ahead with dental implant surgery including gum disease. If in doubt, feel free to speak to our clinicians first.

How painful is getting dental implants?

At New Life Teeth you are in safe and highly capable hands. Every detail of your treatment is painstakingly planned beforehand using the latest computerised technology. Therefore, when it comes to placing your implants we are able to carry out the procedure causing you little or no discomfort. We provide you with conscious sedation during the procedure at no additional cost. As with all extensive dental treatments, some patients will experience post-operative tenderness in the mouth and swelling for a few days after the procedure, but this is completely normal. Full pre and post-operative medications and instructions are provided by our clinical team to help with any discomfort and our clinically trained patient co-ordinators will be available to help you through the healing process.

How long will my dental implants last?

Here at New Life Teeth, we fit the most durable, high-quality dental implants to our patients. While the crown may need replacing after 10-15 years, there is no reason why the implant itself (the fixture secured into the jawbone) shouldn’t last indefinitely.

What happens at my Free Assessment?

You will have a one hour appointment with one of our Full Jaw Implant Surgeons. You will have CBCT scans, Intra-oral scans and facial photographs and videos taken. With this data we will analyse your current dental situation and provide you with a costed treatment plan.

I smoke so can I still get dental implants here?

Just like our overall health, smoking has a detrimental effect on newly-placed implants. Bacteria found in nicotine, for example, is said to be damaging to gums but moreover, people who smoke are also thought to experience slower bone growth.

Successful osseointegration (bone fusion) is a significant factor in the stability and longevity of a dental implant and for these reasons, patients who do smoke will be asked to stop for the duration of their treatment – This can take anything up to 9 months to complete. Quitting smoking for this period will give the implant time to properly stabilise.

Can I wait to get dental implants?

Although you don’t have to replace a missing tooth or teeth, there are lots of benefits to doing so. For instance, the roots of natural teeth help stimulate the jaw bone to keep it strong and without them, or without dental implants in their place, the jaw bone could start to deteriorate. This can change the shape of your face and make you look older. You may also find it difficult to eat certain foods with a missing tooth or teeth and it can knock your self-confidence. These things can all be remedied with dental implants at New Life Teeth.
